1994 - Tonya Harding won the ladies' U.S. Figure Skating Championship in Detroit, MI, a day after Nancy Kerrigan dropped out because of a clubbing attack that injured her right knee. The U.S. Figure Skating Association later took the title from Harding because of her involvement in the attack.

1997 - Mister Rogers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1999 - The top two executives of Salt Lake City's Olympic Organizing Committee resigned amid disclosures that civic boosters had given cash to members of the International Olympic Committee.

2005 - The rate for U.S. First Class mail was raised to 39¢.

2006 - HARRY BELAFONTE called PRESIDENT BUSH, quote, "THE GREATEST TERRORIST IN THE WORLD" while he was visiting Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez.--Belafonte told Chavez, quote, "No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you:  Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people support your revolution."

2006 - The director of the Bond movie "Die Another Day", one LEE TAMAHORI, was picked up in a transvestite prostitution sting . . . and HE was the squish!!!

2011 Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot and critically wounded when a gunman opened fire as the congresswoman met with constituents in Tucson; six people were killed and 12 others were injured. In 2004…Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean chased down and captured a jewel thief in the parking lot of Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel. McLean was trying on watches at the hotel's boutique when the man ran off with a 40-thousand dollar diamond ring.
