FROM DEADLINE:  MGM has found a director for its remake of the horror classic Poltergeist. It’s Gil Kenan, who’s best known for helming Monster House and City Of Ember. He separately has set up an original, A Giant, with Lava Bear and The Henson Company. The remake of the 1982 Tobe Hooper-directed pic is being produced by Sam Raimi, Nathan Kahane, and Roy Lee. The original starred Craig T. Nelson and Jobeth Williams as parents in a family whose dream house turns into a nightmare. Kenan is repped by WME and attorney Robert Offer.

 

Poll: Republicans 'Out Of Touch' And 'Extreme'... like that was a really a question?

 A majority of Americans views the Republican party as out of touch, too extreme and resistant to change, according to a Pew poll released Tuesday.

Sixty-two percent of adults said that Republicans were out of touch with the American people, and 52 percent that the party was too extreme. In comparison, 46 percent said that Democrats were out of touch, and 39 percent that they were too extreme.

Democrats were also viewed as slightly more likely to be looking out for the country's future -- and, by a 19-point margin, as the party more open to change.

WALMART: Pressing Felony Charges Against Employee Who Ate Oreos

Attention Walmart employees, don't get caught with your hand in the cookie jar -- or more accurately, packages of Oreos while you're working.

 

 

The Smoking Gun obtained a Portage, Indiana Police Department report detailing Penny Winters' arrest after Walmart said she was stealing. The report says that Walmart Asset Protection Manager Kenneth Moreno told police that he'd reviewed surveillance video of Winters opening a bag of Oreo cookies inside the store and consuming "multiple cookies
during her work shift without paying for said items."

 

After she was caught, Winters reportedly admitted that she'd been eating food at the Portage store as well as at a previous job at a Walmart in Arizona because she could not afford to buy the snacks on her $11.40-an-hour wage she was making after working for Walmart for eight years. She's charged with one count of felony theft and could go to jail if found guilty.

The news is not very surprising, but it does highlight, as much as anything, Palin's diminished relevance. Reports about the increasingly icy relationship between Palin and Fox News CEO Roger Ailes have been circulating for years. He has mocked her in public, and is said to have privately labeled her "stupid." Meanwhile, her public profile has waned as the years since her bid for the vice presidency grind on.

WASHINGTON -- The No. 2 Republican asswipe in the House leadership says he opposes a Senate-passed measure to avert the so-called fiscal cliff.

Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor told reporters after a two-hour closed-door meeting Tuesday with his GOP lawmakers that he did not support the bill.

He said House leaders were looking for "the best path forward" and that no decisions had been made.

The Senate passed the measure early Tuesday by a sweeping 89-8 vote. House passage of the measure would send it to President Barack Obama for his signature. The bill would increase taxes on family income exceeding $450,000 and delay across-the-board spending cuts for two months.

House GOP leaders were considering amending the measure and sending it back to the Senate, but that step could produce a deadlock.
