1925 - JOHN T. SCOPES was indicted for teaching Darwin's Theory of Evolution.  It was his case that became known as the SCOPES MONKEY TRIAL.

1935 - BABE RUTH hit the 714TH and final home run of his career, for the Boston Braves, in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  It was his third home run in that game and set a home run record that would stand for 39 YEARS

1969 - The Hollies recorded "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" with Elton John on piano.

1969 - Led Zeppelin and the Who appeared together in concert at the Merriweather Post Pavilion.

1988 - Debbie Gibson's "Foolish Beat" hit #1, making her the youngest artist to write, sing and produce a #1 hit. She was 17 years old at the time.

1992 - Khalil Rountree, tour manager for Boyz II Men, was shot and killed at a hotel in Chicago. The group was on tour with Hammer at the time of the incident.

1994 - Barbra Streisand postponed the first night of a six-night stand in Anaheim, CA. She had come down with viral laryngitis.

1996 - Bradley Nowell (Sublime) was found dead in his San Francisco motel room of a drug overdose at the age of 26.

1997 - Bob Dylan was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital with chest pains. As a result, his European tour was canceled.

2005 - CARRIE UNDERWOOD defeated BO BICE to become the fourth "American Idol"

2006 - KENNETH LAY and JEFFREY SKILLING, the top two guys from ENRON, were both CONVICTED of conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud.

2007 - CHARLES NELSON REILLY one of the first OPENLY-GAY STARS died at the age of 76.  (Some of you would remember him for his AWESOME work as a panelist on "Match Game". He was also a regular on "Hollywood Squares" and Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show". he was a gfited Director and mentored many young people.)
