1973 Special Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox and Deputy Attorney General William B. Ruckelshaus were fired and Attorney General Elliot L. Richardson resigned in the so-called Saturday Night Massacre.

1977 - LYNYRD SKYNYRD singer RONNIE VAN ZANT, guitarist STEVE GAINES, and his sister / backup singer CASSIE, were killed when Skynyrd's single engine plane crashed in the swamps of Gillsburg, Mississippi.

1988 - The LOS ANGELES DODGERS won the WORLD SERIES, beating the OAKLAND A'S in five games.

1994 - BURT LANCASTER died in Los Angeles at age 80.  He used to schtupp LIZ TAYLOR, ya know. 

2004 - LENNY KRAVITZ was sued for causing over $300,000 worth of water damage to a neighbor's apartment when his penthouse toilet overflowed two months earlier.

 Robert Reed - (1932 - 1992)  (Mike Brady on "The Brady Bunch".  He died in Pasadena, California from complications of AIDS.)  (In one of his last interviews, he revealed that he actually detested "The Brady Bunch", and that his role as Mike Brady embarrassed him.)

1982 - JOHN DELOREAN was arrested in L.A. for a $24 million cocaine scheme aimed at salvaging his bankrupt sports car company.  He was tried and acquitted

1997 - On stage at the Grand Ole Opry, Vince Gill honored John Denver. Gill played "Take Me Home, Country Roads." 

1998 - George Martin, "The Fifth Beatle", retired from the music business. 

1998 - Mark Nieto filed a lawsuit against Aerosmith for alleged hearing loss after he attended an Aerosmith concert. 

2005 - The trials of SADDAM HUSSEIN began.  He was executed in December of '06.

2006 - NBC said that it had decided not to show pictures of Madonna mounting a crucifix when a concert special was aired the following month.

2008 - "Dolemite" superstar RUDY RAY MOORE died of complications from diabetes at 81.  "Dolemite" was one of THE greatest "blaxploitation" flicks of the 1970s, Cletus.  (--Classic Dolemite Line:  "If you ever see a ghost, cut the mother(effer).")  

2010 - TOM BOSLEY a.k.a. Mr. Cunningham on "Happy Days"died at 83.
