At least one good thing has occurred due to the government shutdown. A Ku Klux Klan really set for Saturday has been canceled.
A special-use permit for the rally was issued on September 26th to the Maryland-based KKK for Gettysburg National Military Park. However, due to the government shutdown, park officials have rescinded all permits for special events.
The shutdown and subsequent closure of national parks and monuments hasn’t stopped everyone. On Tuesday, a group of World War Two veterans stormed the World War Two Memorial at the National Mall, which is now also closed to the public, to pay their respects to their comrades.
