2006 - AARON SPELLING who was responsible for such shows as "Charlie's Angels", "Starsky & Hutch", "The Love Boat", "Fantasy Island", "Melrose Place" and "Beverly Hiills 90210"  died after having a stroke at the age of 83. he left us TOri..ughh!

2009 - ED MCMAHON died at the age of 86.

2010 Following Gen. Stanley McChrystal's criticism of the Obama administration in a Rolling Stone magazine profile, President Barack Obama named Gen. David Petraeus to replace the Afghanistan commander.

2001 - MAGIC JOHNSON, former star of "The Magic Hour", FINALLY got his well-deserved star on the HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME.

2003 - The fifth Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," was published by J.K. Rowling. Amazon.com shipped out more than one million copies on this day making the day the largest distribution day of a single item in e-commerce history. The book set sales records around the world with an estimated 5 million copies were sold on the first day.

2005 Edgar Ray Killen, an 80-year-old former Ku Klux Klansman, was found guilty of manslaughter in the deaths of three civil rights workers in Philadelphia, Miss., 41 years to the day earlier.

James Gandolfini Dead -- 'Sopranos' Star Reportedly Dies in Italy

James Gandolfini -- who famously played Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos" -- reportedly died earlier today in Italy ... TMZ has learned.

 Dead of Heart Attack at 51..

According to HBO, he was on vacation at the time.  The “Sopranos” actor appeared recently in “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.” He had been working on Fox Searchlight’s “Animal Rescue” and TV show “Criminal Justice” as well as “Taxi 22.”

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Lin, and a son.
