Well, puddums, I usually stay away from mummy movies, they remind me too much of the Goldberg family reunions.  However, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (now released on DVD and Blu-ray) is a hoot and you don’t have to eat Aunt Millie’s kugel. 

Somehow the whole mummy thing has been moved from ancient Egypt to ancient China where thousands of yummy mummy soldiers of the first Emperor of China are waiting for hunky Brendan Fraser to knock them back into dust.  If the story line seems a bit far fetched, the special effects of this flick more than make up for it.  Mr. Fraser (whose ass is starting to fall) still looks great in Jodhpurs and still has the wise cracking hero Rick O’Connell down to perfection.  The love of his life Maria Bello is totally satisfactory…you don’t even miss Rachel Weiss, and now we get those Kung Fu super stars Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh doing their incredible acrobatic sword fighting schtick which is always good for popcorn and soda.  If that isn’t enough to keep you happy we get High Himalayan Abominable Snowmen for extra good measure.  Oy!

I didn’t watch this flick expecting Chekov but  just the thought of a 2,000 year old curse coming back to haunt the planet was plenty for me to enjoy all the high powered and high budget special effects.  If you want classy acting stay away, but if you are in the mood for classy action this is a good bet.  It’s a fun adventure with lots stunning visuals and Jet Li flying through the air with the greatest of ease.  That’s a three matzoball evening for this moviegoer.

 For an Old broad, you angels know I love me some actions movies. SO, Can a woman pop into your life and change it forever? Hell,  I've been doing that to young men for years..

Here's the Gist: Live a boring ass life ...or be someone who can Change the world one assassins bullet at a time!

Anxious, clumsy and abused office clerk Wesley Allan Gibson ( McAvoy) has a boring ass routine life: his fat boss humiliates him all the time and his girlfriend screws him over with his colleague and best friend and he works in a cubicle all day long.

His life suddenly changes when he meets the sexy Fox (Angelina Jolie), and is informed that his father was a professional killer that belonged to an ancient organization called Fraternity. He was killed by the skilled and powerful Cross, a hit-man that has betrayed the Fraternity.

Fox brings Gibson to the headquarters of The Fraternity, a thousand-year-old secret society of assassins. The group's leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman), formally introduces Gibson to Fox (, the woman from the night before, and invites him to follow in his father's footsteps as an assassin. THUS begins a non stop 110 minute thrill ride!  I LOVED THIS MOVIE!  I love Angelina Jolie being tough..and McAvoy is cute when his shirt is off!

My favorites ... the WHO'S ON FIRST routine  ...and ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN make me laugh every time i view em.  WHO DONE IT? and BUCK PRIVATES still stand the test of time!

It even includes a 44 page book,  the covers their legacy and every single film in the collection. There are also 6 feature documentaries from noted Film historian. A GREAT DVD for HALLOWEEN WEEK!!

The Strangers *** Matzoballs

Must be the Halloween season because Universal has a spiffy DVD of a very scary movie called The Strangers designed to scare you witless.  While this little film has none of the big special effects that are so popular now, it can still scare the bejesus out of you…the old fashioned way.  The Strangers has all my favorite hair raising devices (you know “Don’t open those drapes!”, “Don’t walk down that hallway!”, “Don’t let your boyfriend leave you behind!”) that work with me every time.  Gorgeous Liv Tyler screams, grunts and cries very well.  (I really want to know the name of her cosmetic surgeon…that nose and those lips are just too damn perfect.)  Her handsome hero boyfriend is played by a new face for me, Scott Speedman, who does his clueless attempts to save the day…uh, evening very well.

While the plot is fairly predictable…you know, gorgeous young couple held hostage in remote home by three insane masked intruders, it is well done with gorgeous lighting and scary musical score.  I’m telling you it had my little sphincter clenching a few times and I don’t clench easily these days.

 

 

DVD Review THE INCREDIBLE HULK !!! 4 Matzoballs

Well, my little darlings, I usually don’t go much for comic book characters but I thought I’d take a look at the DVD of Universal’s The Incredible Hulk.  Maybe it was the promise of pea green pectorals or just the release of all that roidal rage that made me take a look but, let me tell you, it turned out to be the beautiful body of Edward Norton that made me moist.  With his clothes on Mr. Norton looks kind of twerpy and easily fits the mild mannered character of scientist Bruce Banner but Holy Momma when this guy takes his clothes off it’s easy to see why Liv Tyler’s character wants a taste.  The nice thing is that whenever something pisses Bruce off he turns into a nine foot embodiment of rage which rips his wardrobe to shreds.  So, every time he recovers and resumes his normal nice guy persona…he’s nearly naked!  Yum.

I love the extras on this DVD special edition set.  You get a digital disc ready to load up your laptop or iPod but the great thing is the disc that gives you the background of how they do the fantastic computer imaging for the Hulk and his nemesis the Abominator (played by the excellent rat faced Tim Roth).  Honeys, those computer boys really do a number with the (many) fight scenes and you get to watch the state of the art technology come together.  With the good guy (Edward Norton), the bad guy (Tim Roth) both Oscar nominees and the really bad guy (William Hurt) an Oscar winner this Marvel comic book story has definite credibility.  And, there is even a cameo by TV Hulk Lou Ferrigno and Ironman Robert Downey Jr. to make you giggle.

So, puddums, you really should check out The Incredible Hulk for some chills, thrills, and luscious man titties.  I give it four Matzoballs and a little schmaltz thrown in for good measure. THANKS FROM OUR FRIENDS UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOME ENTERTAINMENT

THE JOHNNY CASH CHRISTMAS SPECIAL 1978 ( this is friggin awesome)

I remember the great days of Variety shows and Fabulous Holiday Specials..I sat down to watch this DVD, cuz I've been asked to look for great entertainment ideas for the upcoming holiday season..and I just had the best damn cotton pickin time watching this Show, originally a Christmas special from 1978!

Johnny Cash left us a few years ago... and before he did he had managed to attract fans from all ages (  remember HURT?)!

You could truly tell the love between Cash and his beloved June Carter Cash when they sing "you're a part of me"!  Also on the show..A very young STEVE MARTIN and Rita Coolidge and her husband at the time, a super sexy Kris Kristofferson ( I actually smoked a joint with him and Willy , On Nelson's bus in Nashville once at the Grand Ole Orpy..SWEAR!).  Also included All the Cash Clan.. Daughters- Carlene, Tara, Roseanne, Cindy Kathy and Rosie!

If you Long for the Days of great Network Specials..grab this one or the entire Cash Collections 1976-1979 from the great folks at SHOUT FACTORY!  I recommend it!

Ya know I love me some Shrek!  I REALLY love me some Donkey. Ya want something fun to get the kids in  the Holiday mood this year? A great Christmas gift? (Hanukkah gift.. yes for the entertainment value.. ya know how many Jews watch holiday programming?..heck we make most of em! ) A stocking stuffer?. Well, I would suggest grabbing a copy of the SHREK THE HALLS from PARAMOUNT HOME ENTERTAINMENT. It was one of the highest rated new Holiday specials when it premiered last year on ABC. I know I watched it. I love cartoons!

The story is simple. Shrek gets a crash course in the Holiday Season when..Donkey- Puss-n-Boots- Gingy and the rest of the gang decide to crash his party!  Its crammed full of laughs as the the voices of the original cast return. THE DVD is loaded with special features too.  You get a 12 days of Christmas sing along- Gingys Dunking game and, Dreamworks has thrown in their Animation Video Jukebox!!
